The gap this project addresses
Most online symbol pages are either short folklore lists or very long glossaries. Grave Symbols instead combines an answer-first dictionary, original visual system, uncertainty labels, comparison links, inscription decoding, monument forms and private field notes.
Editorial boundary
The site does not identify deceased people, host obituaries, value monuments or claim that a symbol proves faith, occupation, membership, military service or cause of death. It provides research leads and a method for verifying them.
Technical boundary
The public site is prerendered static HTML. Search and the notebook run locally in the browser; there is no user account, photo upload, database or AI identification endpoint.
Corrections
Grave Symbols does not publish a direct contact address. Corrections should include the page, exact wording at issue, a reliable source and—when relevant—the period and region where the alternate use occurs, so they can be reviewed in the versioned source record.
